Network Mosaic Conference 2012

Children Affected by Parental Addiction

Exploring the impact of parental addiction on children’s health and wellbeing, through their own stories, current research and best practice.

Hosted by Network Mosaic and the Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand, this one day conference aims to explore the prevalence of this issue for children across a multi-sector environment, and empower professionals in understanding risk management and key concepts of

building resiliency in children. Information from attendees will be collated and submitted to government as a response to the Green Paper on Vulnerable Children.

Speakers include:

Parenting Capacity and Mental Illness: Peter Watts

Peter is an Auckland-based Clinical Psychologist who is in private practice. The majority of Peter’s practice involves completing psychological reports, including parenting capacity assessments, for the Family Court and CYF.

Dealing with Bullying: Nicky Depree:

Nicky is a self-employed educational consultant. From 2008-2011 she was a Management Advisor working on school improvement and education reform in two government schools in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Nicky is currently working with Ministry of Education and NZCER on a Wellbeing at School project aimed at reducing bullying behaviours in schools.

Children of parents experiencing a mental health disorder:

Clinical presentation, management and practical issues: Dr Antonios Chasouris

Dr Chasouris is a Specialist Clinical Child Psychologist working at Southland DHB. Dr Chasouris has lengthy experience and expertise in the area of children living with parents experiencing depression and/or anxiety disorders.

The Annual Sunflower Awards for Clinicians who work in partnership with families/whanau will also be present at this event. In addition a new Poetry Book from people that use their Centre will be launched during the during the day.
